The longer the european football-championship goes on, the more radical anti-german I become. So without much further ado:

a clean cut [31 May 2008|04:49pm]
After 5 years of having long hair, I finally got it cut yesterday. Now it is rather short (no longer hanging down into my face in the most unhelpful moments...).

Yes, it was weird looking at myself in the mirror this morning and I am still not completely used to the new feel, but it feels good.

Pictures will follow as soon as I bother to shoot them...

Oh, btw. does anyone need some hair-bands? I still got plenty...

Also, I jumped into the lake on thursday evening and had a nice swim. Almost noone there, calm water, it was nice. Today after work, I decided to repeat this excercise... the shores of the lake were packed with people... stupid weekend. But I will now go swimming every other day or so. It is fun and the one hour bike-ride does me good...

late-night TV [29 May 2008|12:51am]
Boredom and not being able to sleep sometimes has its good sides... by randomly flipping through my channels I came across "When Brendan met Trudy", a nice irish film which I can only recommend to you all.
That's all I wanted to say... at least for now. Take care...

Etymologie für Anfänger [15 Sep 2007|06:33pm]
[ mood | pissed off ]
[ music | VNV Nation - Chrome ]

Dummheit² [09 Sep 2007|05:17pm]
[ mood | annoyed ]
[ music | Henry Purcell - Rondo aus "Abdelazar" ]

http://www.spiegel.de/kultur/gesellschaft/0,1518,504561,00.html

turning to the dark side??? [21 Jul 2007|02:48pm]
I finally caved in to the dark side - even if only a little.

I came across a 14-day trial-version of World of Warcraft for two Euros so I decided to try it out and look what all the fuss is about.

So far I don't see it. The fights mildly boring, the quests are jokes, the grafics are unspectacular at best.

What the fuck? How do people manage to be addicted to anything so boring?

And no, there is almost no roleplaying involved in it at all.

I guess I will give it a few more trys and then return to playing KOTOR for the umpteenth time (I still have not seen everything and I have not even tried playing it as a dark-sider. Now that is a great game. Of course, you cannot chat with bored adolescents from all over the world while playing it...).

On a different subject: my Stasi 2.0-t-shirt arrived today. Yeah!

lack of sleep = euphoria [25 Jun 2007|02:17pm]
[ mood | loved ]
[ music | Henry Purcell - Dido&Aeneas ]

I had early shift on saturday. To make matters worse, early shift in the middle of nowhere (in Fredersdorf, to be exact: http://maps.google.de/maps?f=q&hl=de&geocode=&q=Ernst-Th%C3%A4lmann-Stra%C3%9Fe,+15370+Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf,+M%C3%A4rkisch-Oderland,+Brandenburg,+Deutschland&sll=51.124213,10.546875&sspn=16.190589,35.244141&ie=UTF8&cd=2&ll=52.516658,13.750784&spn=0.003826,0.008605&t=h&z=17&om=1). I had, however, some ambition and decided to take the bike back. I barely reached the border of Berlin in time before the first heavy rain forced me to seek shelter in a bus-stop.
But apart from that, my day would have been great, if I had been able to fall asleep the night before. Unfortunately, I could not. So I had not slept when I went to work and had to live of coffee and cigarettes.

I had promised Barbara that I would sing at her last two "concerts" with the Forster-Chor. I guess she wanted to have at least a few friendly faces around... Unfortunately the last two "concerts" were actually catholic masses. One on saturday evening, the other on sunday morning. And on saturday one of our soloists did not come, so I had to fill in for him. *grymph*

Anyway, the mass was a ridiculous as I had expected. Afterwards I wanted to go to bed, but Barbara instead talked me into coming along to a grill-party at her place. She lives somewhere way out in the sticks in Brandenburg, so I had to leave my bike behind...

The party was great. Barbara and her fiancé Konrad have a cool little old house with a cool garde. The party was actually with her other choir, in which I have helped out several times, so I knew the people... After the Barbecue, we put up a huge canvas and sound-system to watch "What about Bob?" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103241/).

Just after we had finished the film, the police arrived to tell us off for being a nuissacne... Barbara's and Konrad's neighbours sure are Dicks...

So I went to bed around 2 am. At 7.30 am Barbara woke me up again since we had the last concert in the Mass that morning... *argh*

Everyone else was still sleeping, except for her two adorable children. We later found another guest of the party who was up early and made him the official baby-sitter until the time Konrad was ready to be tasked with something responsible again...

Anyway, the last concert went well and I feel no remorse for leaving that choir, especially since it seems that all the nice people are changing to Babs' other choir, together with me. The way that some people in the KFC (yes, I know the abbreviation is rather ironic) treated Barbara, who was responsible for so many great successes, was disgusting.

So, it was sunday noon and I had only slept five hours that night and no hours at all the night before... great... I went over to Alex (of course not until picking up my bike, which was still parked in the middle of Mariendorf) to watch Shrek and Shrek 2 with her in preparation of today evening, when we will go and see Shrek the third. Alex had never seen the Shrek-films before...

We went to bed early and then were in turn woken up way too early by the road-construction in front of her house. So we watched Hogfather, which she liked a lot.

spring again *g* [23 Jun 2007|04:32am]
[ mood | happy ]
[ music | VNV Nation - Chrome ]

OK, it is a bit too late in the year for "Frühlingsgefühle", but hey, those who know me know that I am not the fastest of people...

Anyway, after half a year of single life, I am now once again in a relationship. Hopefully in one that is stabler (and healthier) than the last one.
So far I am quite madly in love ;-)

Her name is Alex(andra). We met in one of my choirs, she sings soprano. She also plays violin and piano (and I love to listen to her playing). Finally a girl with some music-skills *g*

I had nothing to do last monday and decided I would go and listen to a concert of my old choir (the one I left in march). They were performing together with two other choirs. I had hoped that I could join some people I knew in the post-concert drinking, but all the interesting people from my old choir took off early... so it looked like a boring evening alone, when Alexandra showed up. She had sung in one of the other choirs (but I had no idea about that). We went to get a few drinks and then things evolved...

We ended up on my sofa kissing that same night and we spent all the last days together, either at her or my flat.

She owns one of the cutest and best-behaved dogs I have ever met.

I will try to post a picture of her (I did not take it, I stole it from one of our choir's pages... but who cares?)

New DVDs [17 May 2007|01:44pm]
[ music | Wolfsheim - Blind ]

I went shopping the other day and I bought three new DVDs

The first one is Dune in the 1984 version. Even though it contains some not-so-great SFX and a fair share of wooden acting, it still is preferable over the 2000 version. Also it has got Patrick Steward in it and he still has some hair left.

Then I got Richy Guitar which is cheesy enough to be worth the 3 euro I paid for it. Honestly, it is pretty bad, but in a fun way.

Those two were films I already knew and I got them primarily because they were cheap (under 5 euro each).

The third was a kind of a gamble since I did not know the film, I had only read that it was good... since it was only 6 euro, too, I decided to give it a try.
What can I say, Erbsen auf halb 6 is a great film. The story is told in quite a fun way, the acting is good, the cinematography is good, too and the music is just beautiful... a german tragicomedy at its best.

I love security-checks... [06 May 2007|11:43pm]
[ mood | tired ]
[ music | Deine Lakaien - Dark Star ]

Yes I do. I will tell you why soon, but before I have to get some stuff about my weekend down.

Helga and Lars are in town. For those of you who don't know about them: Helga and Lars are two friends of mine now living in Denmark (in some suburb of Copenhagen). Helga is the friend who got a heart-transplant 2004 (I might have told you about her).

Anyway, she was here for her check-up at the horpital as well as for checking up on some friends, including me.

Friday evening we met with some more people at a bar. Unfortunately, both have a liking for cocktails (which I severely dislike) and so we had to go to a cocktail-bar. A cocktail-bar in Friedrichshain of all places (needless to say, I completely abhor Friedrichshain).

Still it was fun...

Yesterday I had a choir-rehersal for the project for pentecost. Unfortunately, our choir fell victim to some director who decided we should sing in "earthen" colours. In my case that means borrowing a khaki shirt and khaki trousers from my brother... I so look like I am on a safari...

The evening was spend with some comrades from the Jusos (one of them had her birthday). We had a barbecue, some beers etc. One of us had a guitar with him. He could barely play a few chords and he did not know most of the lyrics of the songs he played, but miniscule matters like that cannot stop us...

Today I went to a café for brunch with Helga and Lars. Later on we went to some friends' place (where the two are staying) to meet with some people, eat lots more (I ate enough for a week today) and play bordgames.

Now I return to the topic of security-checks. thanks for bearing with me for so long...

While the others were still brunching, I went over to the jewish parish hall to enroll for a hebrew class. I was rather late (a major flaw of mine) and I got the last free place in the class!
All thanks to the security-check. Since I was used to the security-procedures from my stay in Israel, I had anticipated they whould do a check at the entrance and therefor had nothing potentially dangerous-looking with me. The guy who arrived a minute earlier apparently had not expected it and had arrived with a lot of baggage (he probably just arrived to Berlin on train) which he had to have checked completely. He wanted to take the course, too. Thanks to all the stuff he was dragging around, I got in earlier and got the last place. All hail the mighty security-protocoll!

So on wednesday, I will be starting my hebrew-class.

Shalom to you all!

This will just be a quick update on what has happened to me the last few days. You will get the full story later...

I am in Jerusalem at the moment, together with a group of Jusos. We are visiting our partners from Israel and Palestine as well as the Willy-Brandt-Center in East-Jerusalem.

So far we have been to Hebron, Ramallah and Jerusalem itself (seeing the Knesset, Yad Vashem, the Dome of the Rock etc. pp.).

I am well, life is good and the food is marvelous.

But the Fatah kicked our arses today. At basketball, at least...

Funny pictures of yours truly were, of course, taken.

Catching up [08 Apr 2007|06:57pm]
[ mood | tired ]
[ music | Henry Purcell: King Arthur ]

I know, my last entry dates back to late january. I do feel a certain amount of guilt about this. Several things have happened since then.

First of all, we sang two wonderfull performances in february (Camille Saint-Saens' "Samson et Dalila"), which unfortunately turned out to be the last for me with that choir. The choir crumbled over the past months and has now reached the point where they cannot afford Barbara (http://www.barbara-rucha.de/) as conductor anymore. Since that wonderfully gifted musician was the only reason for me to remain in that choir in the first place, I see no future for me in that formation.

Fortunately, I have already aquired a new choir, which has an exciting project, scheduled for performance on pentecost. I love modern music...

A week after that, Deine Lakaien came to the city with their 20th-anniversary-show. As a great admirer of Ernst Horn's musical genius (unfortunately, his skills at writing lyrics sometimes leave quite a lot to be desired), I could not possibly miss that show. Even though the idea of a DL-show with seats frightened me away a bit at first.
It was a grand evening, even though I still severely dislike the new album's songs.

Then I finally made it to Vienna to visit Judith. We had a wonderful weekend and I met her awesome friend Mareike as well as Mareike's soap-opera-roommates.
Judith and I went to a great concert of the London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Collin Davis where we stumbled over a friend of Judith's from Sweden, who had just moved to Vienna (without knowing about Judith studying there) and promptly invited him to the next evening's dinner.

Unfortunately, I completely forgot to take pictures with my digital camera (except two, which will be uploaded sometime in the near future) and only took slides instead.

Some time back, my dad had won a trip to Turkey (Antalya to be excact) for two. Since he could only take the trip outside the school-holidays, my mom could not come along and so I was chosen as his company.
The trip was somewhat packed. I completely hated the flight with some cheap turkish airline I had never heard about. I could cover my ears with my knees...
The hotel was one of those cloned resort-complexes on the beach out in the sticks. So far so bad.
The group was not terribly interested in the details of Turkey’s history and culture and seemed most happy if there were souvenirs (of varying expensitiy) to be bought.
Fortunately for my dad and me, the tour-guide was really cool and also had good connections. For example, instead of some run-of-the-mill carpet-factory-tour, he arranged for an old school-friend of his, an expert on carpets (the university of Istanbul is the only place in the world where you can actually study carpet-studies) and a chief-executive in one of the biggest companies. That man was driven by a great passion for his subject, possessed great knowledge, culture and certainly great humour. My father and I had up until then not shown much interest in that subject, but that man shoved us who wrong we were. Some of those carpets are truly great works of art (of course, the ones we liked were totally unaffordable. The most expensive one we saw cost half a million Euro).

The other high-point of the trip was the abundance of ancient sites in Turkey. We visited Aspendos, Perge, Hierapolis and Termessos, each one interesting in its own way (Aspendos has the best-preserved roman theatre in Turkey (and maybe the world), Perge is very well-documented, Hierapolis lies just above the Pamukkale-terraces and Termessos has probably the most scenic location high above the plain).

Pictures of this trip shall follow as soon as I can be bothered.

Two weeks ago, I went to a Juso-seminar in Magdeburg. Damn, that place is so bereft of all that makes a town a place one can live in. Compared to Magdeburgs inner city, Berlin’s is really scenic. Compared to Magdeburg’s night-life, Lemgo’s is a pinnacle of entertainment.
Apart from that, the seminar was interesting. And, being Jusos, we still managed to have a good time.

That’s that so far...

Ah yes, no update on my personal life is required as I still have no new s.o. as of yet. Still, I am not as desperate as I might have sounded to some of you...

And there is one more place where I don't really have to go again. Stuttgart.

I went there for the Bundeskoordinierungstreffen of the Jusos Hochschulgruppen (national convention of the university-groups of the young socialists). Admittedly we did not see that much of the city, but what i saw was enough.

The convention was a lot of work, but fun and I met quite a few interesting people.

Unfortunately on the way there, we got stuck 45 minutes a few kilometres outside Hanover because the train broke down. *blargh*

And now to another trip.

I am going to Vienna in february!!!

Just bought the tickets!

star wars marathon [22 Jan 2007|01:36am]
My brothers and i had our Star Wars marathon today. Of course, we only saw the old trilogy since the new one sucks...

So we had cake and coffee while watching episode IV, pizza and beer for Episode V and wine and crisps for Episode VI.

Yay for a healthy diet!

After that we had our usual random ranting contest, which, as usual ended in a draw between all three of us.

And now I am thinking about killing the last bit of pizza.

catching up [19 Jan 2007|11:47pm]
[ music | Guillaume Bouzignac - In pace, in idipsum ]

OK, I have not posted forever, but tonight I have some time which I would otherwise waste sleeping anyway, so I guess I could give you a small update.

As most of you will probably know by now, I finally decided to get the hell out of my unhealthy realtionship in the later stages of december.

It has done me good. My skin is better now, I am more relaxed. It is strange how a relationship impaires my sense of perception every time. Even one as warped as the last one.

The last weeks were a bit like waking up after several months' sleep. Whenever I am in a relationship, I tend to not notice certain things. For example, I am once again absolutely startled to find out just to what an extend I am surrounded by - quite frankly - beautifull women. It always come like a little shock ;-)

And now to something that pissed me off a bit.

My conductor was approached by Columbia Music whether our choir would like to do the choir-parts on the "Lord-of-the-Rings-Symphony" that will be touring through Germany this spring.
I am not such a great fan of the whole thing and neo-romantic film-music clearly is not what I am living for, but I would have liked the prospect of travelling at other people's expenses.

Alas, I will probably not be able to sing it since I am going to Israel exactly at the same time. At least that has been the plan so far.

Of course I chose Israel, since it is such a great oportunity. Still, it makes the choice a bit harder...
